A Somerset Wedding at Brympton House for Kirsten, Wearing Odeline by Marie Laporte

Primary school teacher Kirstin married Analyst Milo on 30th July 2021 at the beautiful Brympton House in Yeovil, Somerset.

The couple wanted a happy, love filled, summer wedding with lots of bright colours and floral details. They also didn’t want their wedding to feel too traditional so sought to incorporate some subtle and elegant modern elements.

The Dress

My dress was the Odeline Marie Laporte design and purchased from The Mews Bridal in Clifton, Bristol.

The Mews were fantastic! It was the third bridal shop I tried and it was perfect in that a lot of the dresses were in my price range, there was a good variety with lots in my style to browse and ultimately I was made to feel very comfortable and that I could take my time.

I tried on quite a few dresses and I wouldn’t say I instantly fell in love with the one I picked as there was a few I liked, but when I went away I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

From there it was easy to arrange appointments and fittings and the staff were all super lovely and helpful and organised. They kept in contact frequently, even when we had to postpone, and the alterations were perfect.

I had a rough style in my head for a while but didn’t want to be too specific in case I couldn’t find the dress I was picturing. I wanted something fairly simple, elegant and classic but with some sort of lace detail. In the end the dress I picked ticked all those boxes.

I loved the lace because it was slightly quirky and different but still had a very soft, feminine feel.

My shoes were Rainbow Club, from John Lewis – they were so comfy and I had my hair done by a friend of my hair dresser, and she put small Pearl grips into the hair do.

Venue & Location

We chose Brympton House because of all the different spaces it had which each had a different but special feel to match each part of our day.

The ceremony room was romantic and had a church feel but without being a religious space, the ball room where we had our reception was big and spacious and light, the grounds were just beautiful and the barn where we had the evening celebrations was more relaxed.

We had help from a wedding coordinator who worked for the venue and her services were included in the price when we booked the venue but we organised all the small details and external suppliers ourselves.

Flowers & Bridesmaids

The flowers were all done by the styling team who work among side the venue. The flowers were one of our favourite parts! Lots of bright, summery colours.

My bridesmaids dresses were from Pretty Lavish, in a mixture of the ‘Piper’ style and ‘Keisha’ style, in olive green. The bridesmaids all picked their own shoes and accessories.

Photography

Faye Green was recommended to us by a friend and we are so happy she was! She captured our wedding exactly how we wanted it to be and the photos really show what our wedding was all about!

She was amazing on the day and we have already recommended her to friends.

For scent, I wore Jo Malone’s Earl Grey & Cucumber just because it’s a light, fresh, summery scent. I knew I liked it for a while but I bought it specifically for the wedding and only wear it for special occasions now.

My hair was done by a friend of my hairdresser and I did my make up myself.

How They Met

We met when we were 16 at school! And we were engaged 8 years later. Milo proposed on a weekend trip to Belgium, after a walk around some beautiful gardens in Brugge.

Our wedding was originally scheduled for summer 2020 but we postponed for a year due to covid and ended up being engaged for nearly three years in total.

First Dance

We had Your Love Gets Sweeter Every Day, by Finley Quaye for our first dance. Our band, The Mashup Kings, did a cover of it.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Relax and enjoy! It goes so quickly so just forget about how things “should” be and just enjoy it. Oh and do a practice photo shoot so you feel relaxed in front of the camera!

There was a couple of things that didn’t go exactly as planned but that was the fun of it all!

Our original budget was £30,000. We exceeded by £8,000 but £3,500 of that was fees to postpone the wedding which we managed to eventually claim back on our insurance.
